Welcome to day two of my 31 days series, writing.
I get asked the same question all the time… “why do I blog”
I wish it was simple answer but it’s not.
When I started my blog, over 9 years ago, it was a way to communicate with family what we were up to. I updated milestones for each kid, announced pregnancies, and shared vacation pictures.
Soon I discovered the world of pinterest (I was part of the beta testers) and a craft obsession started.
okay was reignited, I’ve always been obsessed.
As I began sharing craft ideas and recipes friends and friends of friends began following my blog. It was a whole new world to me and I was in love with it. I enjoyed sharing my latest projects and hearing theirs thoughts on a recipe or craft I created.
Fast forward a few years and I learned about advertisers, affiliates and monetizing. This is when my blog changed. I was able to pay for family vacations, Christmas presents, and other large bills.
As my readers grew in numbers, my personal posts decreased. I needed to find a balance of protecting my family but still being real and open.
In 2012 I attended the first Influence conference. It was such an eye opener for me and allowed me to step back and focus on the vision for my blog. I gave my blog over to God. I was asking Him what I should share, what I should stop doing, and how often to spend time working. He made it very clear that the blog was less about me and more about Him.
When I returned from the conference I re-branded my blog. I changed the name to the Pearl blog. I wrote a mission statement, and really started to make my faith a focal point. My blog grew increasingly fast after that. But God always likes to keep us on our toes. Last year he asked me to take a break from blogging. I was confused, scared, but obedient. Thankfully the Lord has allowed me to get back to writing here. Just this time with more boundaries and better time management!
All this to say, I blog for Jesus. I blog for His glory. I blog to provide for my family. I blog to create conversation. I blog to encourage.
