the meaning of Easter, to me

meaning of Easter

As I look at all the awesome blogs on my reader list
the last few days to see what everyone is doing
I notice there is a lot of bunnies, eggs, baskets, and candy
Don’t get me wrong I like bunnies, Easter egg hunts, and especially love chocolate.
more than all that though I love Jesus.
that’s the true meaning of Easter, Jesus

I did find a handful of blogs that shared testimonies, scripture and Easter meanings.
I want my kids to know what Easter really means.

From the earliest days of the church, Easter has been celebrated by all Christians everywhere. As the most important day in the Christian calendar, Easter Sunday is the day that we celebrate the bodily Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Our observation of Lent and Holy Week will better prepare our hearts to celebrate the power and joy of Christ’s resurrection on Easter.
The Bible passages for Easter can be found in Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, and John 20.

Easter is such a special day for me.
It means more than just knowing Jesus died for our sins
it’s knowing he died for ALL of our sins.
no matter the sin
no matter who sinned.

Mindy from Pondering of the Heart shared on her blog:

My Lord and Savior was beaten, crucified and died for ME. He took my sin. It is a gift that I don’t and never will be able to deserve. SOOOOO thankful for HIS grace and mercy.
…Leave my selfish ways behind and take up HIS cross and follow HIM?
Chances are that, as an American, I will never physically suffer as Jesus did for me. But am I willing to suffer in other ways?
Am I willing to suffer by bearing the cross when people say unkind things about me or others that I love by reacting the way Jesus did? Jesus said NOTHING when he was accused.

Am I willing to be ostracized by people ….intentionally or otherwise, as Jesus was?

Am I willing to love the way Jesus did? To love everyone?

Am I willing to go and be the hands and feet of God as Jesus was?

Am I willing to be like Jesus in countless other ways so that people see HIM in me?

Am I willing?

This morning, I’m struck by the heaviness of this day.

Not only because of what Jesus did for me, but by what that means I’m called to do in return. Yes, Jesus died on the cross as a gift for me. I never have and never will earn it. But that gift he gave demands a response. Am. I. willing?!!?

 Are you willing?
Luke 9:23 (New Living Translation)
Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.

Raechel from Finding my feet  wrote the perfect statement on her blog
“Humbled, broken, and tremendously grateful for my Savior’s love”

that gets me each time i read it…
so perfectly written and such an impact.
What does it really mean to be humble, broken and grateful all at the same time.
For me:
humble meaning: not proud, low in ranking, submissive to my Lord
broken meaning: made weak, sorrowful
grateful meaning: appreciative, contentment, and love

I can not truly express the whole meaning of Easter.
It means more than any word I can pull from the dictionary!
To think God sent his son to die for me and YOU.
He knows us, he loves us even when we turn from Him.
He knows everything we do, say and even think
yet he forgives us, seeks us, and loves us
unconditionally, forever

This Saturday in closing of our Lenten prayers

I suggest you pray

  • and take time to examine your heart,
  • asking yourself how Jesus is the Vine for you today.
  • Is your life bearing fruit?
  • Are you relying on the strength of Jesus?
  • Confess ways you are attempting to live apart from Jesus and thank Jesus for being the Vine.
We have been singing a song a church that really makes me and the hubby emotional.
here are the lyrics.
Take a minute and read over them
listen to what he is saying and I hope you are as moved as we are!
He will live, our sorrow sharing
Jesus saves, Jesus saves
He will die our burden bearing
Jesus saves, Jesus saves
“It is done!” will shout the cross
Christ has paid redemption’s cost
While the empty tomb declaring
Jesus saves
Freedom’s calling
Chains are falling
Hope is dawning
Bright and true
Day is breaking
Night is quaking
God is making all things new
Jesus saves
Oh, to grace, how great a debtor
Jesus saves, Jesus saves
All the saints who shout together i know
Jesus saves, Jesus saves
Rising up so fast and strong
Lifting up salvation’s song
The redeemed will sing forever
Jesus saves

Praying you all have the most Blessed Easter.
