Summer reading list

summer reading list

I hope to get in a lot of reading this summer. My plan is to read a couple non-fiction books, follow along with a bible study, participate in 1-2 book clubs, and indulge in a lot of christian fiction.

nothing to prove by Jennie Allen

Currently I am in the middle of reading Nothing to prove by Jennie Allen. This book is really making me uncomfortable. It’s having me look at myself in a way I have not before. I am learning to name my sins and burdens and leave them at the foot of the cross. The hardest part is identifying issues I did not realize were issues to begin with.  Once those are laid down I am filling the empty spots with truths that the Lord has for me. He is enough, He is all I need, I am worthy.

Starting June 6th I am joining Jamie Ivey for her summer book club. We will be reading The Turquoise Table By Kristin Schell. My desire in reading this book is gain confidence in starting to get to know my new community. Since moving to a new town I have been a little shy in meeting my neighbors. I am looking forward to gathering as a local community and making new friends.

James Study Book | She Reads Truth

For my bible study I think I will do the James study from She reads Truth. I purchased this a few weeks ago and think this summer will be give me time to go through it slowly and meditate on what I learn. It’s only a 2 week study so’ll need something to help finish out the summer. There are a few other studies on the She reads truth app that look good to me, so I think that’s the route I’ll take.

Never unfriended

Jamie has not shared what her July book club book will be. So for now I think I’ll plan my own book club for that month. A couple friends and I are planing on reading Never Unfriended by Lisa-Jo Baker. This book is another one I am nervous to read. I have a feeling it’s going to challenge me in ways that make me uncomfortable. Maintaining and investing in friendships is something I want to make a priority in my life, so I better get over it and jump in feet first.

Craving Connection: 30 Practical Challenges for Real-Life Engagement

Along with Never Unfriended I’ll continue reading Craving Connection. I think that the two books will go well together.

Now, here is where I need your help. I’m looking for recommendations for some really good fiction books. I prefer christian fiction but have really loved books by Liane Moriarty so I am not opposed to trying something new. I have a few requirements: Not sci-fi, no graphic love making, and little to know swear words. To see books I have read or want to read you can follow my good reads account.

What’s on your summer reading list?
I’ll come back and edit this post adding the books you have recommended.
