simple puppy chow recipe

a bitter puppy chow recipe
For our Monday night Dessert and Devotions this week we enjoyed puppy chow. It’s been so long since I have made this I actually had to create the recipe. Apparently Aldi brand cereal boxes do not include the recipe! HA

The ingredients are simple and I had them all in stock. Thanks to Aldi I usually have most baking essentials in my pantry at all times (no this post is not sponosred by Aldi, they do not even know who the pearl blog is I am sure)

puppy chow ingredients

9 cups rice square (or rice chex)
1 1/2 cup chocolate chips (I used a bitter chocolate because I like the flavor of dark chocolate)
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
(optional 1/4 cup butter or margarine – I did not use this)

4. add in vanilla, stir

melt chocolate peanut butter and butter add in vanilla

5. pour over cereal and carefully mix until all the cereal is coated.

It’s that simple. I know some people add the margarine to the recipe but I really wanted that bitter dark chocolate flavor so I did not this time. Usually I do, but it’s good either way. I am eager to try the cake batter version I have seen on the inter webs lately.

What’s your favorite way to make Puppy chow / muddy buddies?
