Pride causes Anxiety lent #32

pride causes anxiety

Pride causes anxiety, it is the root of all our anxious thoughts. It’s our ugly pride that makes us afraid.

Let’s define what pride is. Pride is self-satisfaction, insubordinate, refuses to trust,  self-reliant, anxious about the future.

Now let’s look again at  1 Peter 5:6–7,
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

How in the world are we to humble ourselves?
Let’s look at verse 7, and I bet we’ll find the answer. “casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.”

We need to trust God. To fully trust God is most humble thing we can do. We are telling him that we know he cares for us, that we believe he has our best interest in mind, that we know his wisdom is far greater than ours!

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Remember God is faithful. 1 Peter 4:19, “Entrust your soul to a faithful Creator.”

Humility (trust) is the opposite of pride. The mighty hand of God is over us to protect us, not to harm us.
