“Ya’ll” is about to start coming out of my mouth on the regular. I feel like it has to after starting my new podcast obsession.
Normally I am a tv/movie or music in the background person. Especially while folding laundry or meal prepping. okay so I also find myself just sitting/standing and watching the show and folding/cooking/prepping during commercials making my “task” take a lot longer than it should.
I feel like I need voices in the background as I am a stay at home mom to 3 kids who are all in school full time. Yup, there are days when I say goodbye to the kids at 7:40am and not a hello again until 4:15pm.
That’s a long day of not speaking to a person.
Like a really long day.
Especially in a world where we tweet, like, share and text and everyone.
Thank goodness for snapchat where I can make a ton of mini videos and send them to my friends!
Of course the videos are enhanced with some super great filters.
Okay back to podcasts. I finally came to the conclusion that it was time to check out this world of podcasting.
After consulting the peeps of the world wide web I found an app for my android device.
I am using podcast addict.
I decided to check out a podcast that Jen Hatmaker recommended called Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey.
I was not sure what to expect with a podcast but I jumped in feet first and let me tell you this has changed my life. Yes in two days my life has been changed.
“The Happy Hour Podcast is hosted by Jamie Ivey, and each week she brings a guest to the show. During the happy hour they will discuss anything and everything just as if you were around the table with your own girlfriends. Jamie loves to connect with women and encourage them as they journey through life. These conversations will make you laugh and cry all in one. The Happy Hour will be something you look forward to each week. You will be encouraged as you listen to other women talk about the simplest things in life to the grandest. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the conversation!”
Friends this podcast delivers. I feel like I am sitting a table with girlfriends listening to everyday chit chat, being challenged, laughing, and getting new ideas. I no longer feel like I am sitting home alone. Although I am not “speaking” in the conversation I feel every bit apart of it.
How is this life changing?
Ya’ll I get stuff done. I find that I have folded all the laundry, picked up rooms, meal prepped and even ate lunch all while listening to some funny ladies! That is game changing for me. And for my family.
I have already added 7 new books to my to reading list thanks to the recommendations the girls have shared. I have been encouraged to check my social media usage, to be more authentic in my writing, and again make friendships a priority in my life.
If you have not listened to a podcast I totally recommend it. Maybe girlie chit chat is not your thing, maybe it’s NPR or sermons. Whatever it is I suggest you try it.
SO for those of you who have tried it and love podcast share your favorites. Let’s start a resource of tried and true podcasts that we can pass along to family and friends.
