Not being so distracted.

Before I begin Let us pray.
Dear Gracious Father,
I am so thankful for the day you have given me. Lord I come to you seeking your guidance. Let these words that I am about to type be Your words. Let them speak to those who read them. Search us Oh lord, Search our hearts and minds. Let us be filled with your spirit as we fellowship together.
                                                           Amen

I was reading my morning devotional today, Beth Moore’s Praying God’s Word Day by Day, and felt really touched by what the Lord wanted me to hear.
Let me share with you what the devotional said and what I felt the Lord wanted me to hear.
Devotion: January 7th
*Like Eve, we want to feel smart but nothing is more ignorant
than choosing man’s intelligence over God’s *
Lord God, when you asked the women in the Garden, “What is this you have done?” her response was, “the serpent deceived me, and I ate” (Gen. 3:13)
Just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, the minds of even those with a sincere and pure devotion to Christ can be led astray (2 Cor. 11:3).
Please help me always be aware that the enemy will be up to his old tricks. Even the devout believer can be led astray if not held continually on the path by Your Word and keenly aware of Satan’s schemes. Help me not be deceived by the serpent’s cunning.
My thoughts:
2 Corinthians 11:3 (New Living Translation)
But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent.
Genesis 3:13 (New Living Translation)
Then the Lord God asked the woman, “What have you done?”
“The serpent deceived me,” she replied. “That’s why I ate it.”
We live in such a busy world that our focus can so easily be taken of God. There are so many things that “need” to be done, places to go, people to take care of. Yet the Lord has commanded us to spend time with Him, focus on Him. Proverbs 3:6 says “in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” How else are we going to make it through such a corrupt and evil filled world if we do no seek Him in all that we do, big or small?
The devil tries to fill our head with lies and distractions. There are so many things that happen in our lives that make us question, make us doubt and make us just plain scared. These thoughts are from the devil, not from God. The Lord tells us that bad things are going to happen in our lives, we will suffer, we will have great sorrow, and we will experience tragedy. Not because God is testing us, not because he wants us to feel so bad we have no where else to turn. We have such pains in our lives because we were born into sin. But by believing in Him, and trusting Him we can get through anything and everything. Not only can we get through it we can be better because of it. And if we really listen we can figure out how to use all the sorrow for the greater good of someone else.
May the Lord speak to you today; I pray that you listen for Him. Sometimes no answer is the answer the Lord wants you hear. I hope that makes sense.
Side note: If you do not already, I encourage you to find an accountability partner. Preferably not your spouse/significant other; a friend, co-worker, MOPS leader, or mentor. Share with them your struggles and ask them to hold you accountable for trying to change. This year I have a great partner, together we are reminding each other to stay in God’s word daily and seek Him more. I ask that you keep me accountable also, not only in my faith but also my blogging. I really the Lord has lead me to do this and I would like to continue to honor Him in all I do and say.
One last thing if you are looking for a devotional that is encouraging and just plain awesome, try Jesus Calling. I love this devotional and there has been numerous times where I really felt the lord speaking to me. I strongly encourage you to get this book.
In His name,
Chrissy
