I AM :

I AM : IF : Equip I am series

This week I joined hundreds of women around the world in a new bible study. We are preparing our hearts not only to know Jesus more but for the 2016 IF: Gathering.

At IF:Gathering 2016, we will set our eyes on Jesus, our salvation and the example of what it means to live in the fullness of grace and truth, and wrestle with the question, “What IF we all lived like Jesus?”
But in order to know how to live like Jesus, we need to know who He is. We see in the gospel of John that Jesus uses several “I Am” statements to describe himself. Each week, we will focus on a different ‘I Am’ statement. These statements communicate defining qualities of Jesus and as we look at each one, a word seems to surface in most of these passages: Life.

This will be my third year attending an IF:Local event. I am looking forward to this time of praising and worshiping Jesus, getting to know him more, and connecting with women from my community.

Our first I AM verse is found in the gospel of John:

John 14:1-7 esv
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

what stood out in the text to me:
vs1: Jesus said, Believe in God and also believe in me. Right there he is reminding us of his equality with the Father. Although each is unique they are still one.
vs4: you know the way to where I am going Um..thankfully Thomas asked the question I would have. Although Jesus made it clear many times, it’s takes asking again sometimes. How can we know the way?
vs6a: I am the way Jesus answers our question as simple as he can. HE IS THE WAY. He is our hope and the only way we can get to heaven to live with him forever. I love that he didn’t want us to miss this point so he said it in a way we could all understand.

what stood out from the video:
“Jesus is everything, the ONLY way, he is COMPLETE TRUTH, and IN him is LIFE.”
“He is not only the Messiah and the sacrifice: but he is OUR LIFE”

Questions:
1. Do you trust Jesus to be your everything?
2. Are there places you don;t trust him>

My answer:
I do not believe I intentionally do not trust him in all areas of my life, but if I am honest and look back I can see where I am not fully trusting him. What I mean is there are times when I giving him my burdens/cares/worries/ideas/plans but never full let go. It’s like I am handing them to him but leaving a string attached that I am holding on to and waiting to pull back down and try to control it myself. Other times I do fully give it to him, no strings hanging down but then a short time later I take it back. I need to learn to fully trust and let go, I know in my mind that he is always working for my good but I need to make my heart believe that too.

I added today’s truth to my chalkboard wall in my kitchen.
