Hot Lemon drink recipe

Hot Lemon Drink

May I just vent for minute please. I am really struggling with giving up coffee. It’s not the caffeine I miss, it’s not the red and white Starbucks mug, although I do miss holding one, it’s the fact that I miss a warm drink. I miss sipping on a creamy smooth cup of anything. Recently my body made the choice that it no longer wanted to tolerate hot cocoa. Ugh. No more creamy warm chocolate drinks.

I am not complaining because God asked me to do this. I am grateful for his words and look forward to being obeident to his will. However, I am complaining because it’s freezing here in Michigan and I need to warm my insides!

grand rapids forecast

the weather people added this caption with the forecast…

“An even stronger system is on the horizon for late Friday into Saturday, with widespread snow and very strong winds. Near blizzard conditions are likely by Friday night, with wind chills running -10 to -20.”

did you read that possible -20. EEEK. Someone move me to Florida ASAP.
moving on, no pun intended.

I have found a new love for tea, but it’s not hitting the spot, if you know what I mean. I needed something sweeter, a little more flavorful. Lennie, my 4 year old coffee addict, refers to my teat as not good water. I think she misses the coffee more than me. Although she get’s to delight it the wonders of hot chocolate. So rude.

I was messing around in the kitchen and created a drink that is working for now. It’s sweet, it’s flavorful, and it’s warm.

Hot Lemon water with cinnamon

Friends meet my Hot Lemon water! The best part it is you can add more lemons, less honey, more cinnamon and make a whole new drink. I may try adding other spices as the week goes on.

  1. A slice of ginger goes deliciously with lemon, cinnamon and honey.

  2. This post totally reminds me of my late grandmother … she always drank hot tea with lemon … sometimes even just hot water with lemon. I can almost smell it.

  3. Thank you for this! I gave up all caffeine and have fund it hard to find warm drinks for this time of year. I’m with you, it wasn’t the fact that I was missing the caffeine, but I would look at people with a hot cup of coffee in the morning and would have to literally hold myself back from just smelling it! You should see what happens when I go to a coffee shop with friends!

I’ve resulted to black tea, mint tea, and green tea and honey. I’m so excited to try this though! I’ll keep checking back for more 🙂

  4. I hear you on the cold temps! I’m so ready for spring! This looks good, but the last time I tried honey and cinn together- I puked!

I too have inflammation that has sent me looking for alternatives, since sugar, coffee, milk, gluten and sometimes chocolate all increase the inflammatory response. My favorites for winter are – Decaf Chai Lattes made with soy or almond milk, – Teeccinno is a nice coffee alternative with Silk soy, coconut or almond milk or creamer, but takes some getting used to, think “Cafe’ Vienna”, – Biggby has an awesome African Autumn tea latte, made with Rooibos it is soothing and anti-inflammatory and, of course, I ask them to use Soy milk. Global Infusion on Diamond St, near Marie’s, is a great place to try some new hot beverages as they are always offering unique tea drinks. They have almond or soy milk alternatives too.
