Hello {Fat Friday}…

Why Hello there Fat Friday followers…
I am excited you are here today.
Not that I have some great weight loss secrets
but because I have a new vision for Fat Fridays….
I am thinking of renaming it…
I do like the name Fat Friday but I am trying to change my house to a FAT TALK FREE ZONE…
A dear friends daughter has a blog and brought to my attention the term “Fat Talk”.
She shared a link to the website Reflections body image program.
Reflections does a great job explaining what fat talk is:
Fat Talk describes all of the statements made in everyday conversation that reinforce the thin ideal and contribute to women’s dissatisfaction with their bodies. Examples of fat talk may include: “I’m so fat,” “Do I look fat in this?” “I need to lose 10 pounds” and “She’s too fat to be wearing that swimsuit.”
Statements that are considered fat talk don’t necessarily have to be negative; they can seem positive yet also reinforce the need to be thin – “You look great! Have you lost weight?”
I have a tween and I am starting to realize that she sees and hears what I am doing/saying.
I can’t teach her to love herself and be proud of the body the Lord has given her
if I am always complaining about mine.
Cindy puts it so perfectly on her blog.

As I spent time praying later that evening, I remembered something I learned in a Bible Study that was eye opening for me. Kelly Minter, in her book No other gods shares, “Satan will tell us what’s true, but he never tells us the TRUTH“.

Remembering that simple statement was like an “AHA” light bulb moment for me!!

Yes, it is true, I am not a size 4 (or an 8 anymore).Yes, it is true, my body has given birth to 4 children.
Yes, it is true, I do not look like the women on the magazines.
Yes, those things are true.

But the TRUTH is that I am beautiful and accepted by God….just the way that I am!!

The TRUTH is that God delights in me!!
The TRUTH is that I am secure, significant, set apart in Christ!
The TRUTH is that I am dearly loved by the Lord God Almighty! Woo Hoo!!
Satan will tell us what’s true, but he never tells us the TRUTH“.
My greatest desire is to be a voice of TRUTH in my own life, and the lives of every single person I come in contact with (my friends, family, neighborhood, community, on-line, and more!)
Check out Cindy’s blog for more great inspiration stories! She totally rocks!
So this week I am going to share with you my “digits”
but I am not going to let them get to me,
whether gain or loss
I am going to embrace this body the Lord has given me.
I am going to embellish it with cute jewelry and a positive attitude.
I will take better care of my body.
Not to look better or because my doctor called me fat. ( yes she did do that)
but because the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies”
so my friends are you with me.
Can we be Fat Talk Free?
Can we challenge each other to be positive and love all of us.
If we are disappointed with a part of our bodies
we need to thank God for it anyway
For all the ways it helps us.
For making us in His image.
and then giving the problem to Him
Allowing him to carry our burden and asking him to help us to change
what HE WANTS us to change.
and my digits are…

Yup…another 1.5 increase.
But that’s okay.
I am giving this to the Lord.
I am going to pray and ask him to guide my days
to help me to be as active as I need to be.
I am not going to lie though
it’s a bit frustrating and humiliating to have gained all my weight back.
I have no one to blame but me.

How did you do this week? link up a your most recent weight/health related post.
also what should Fat Friday’s new name be?
Taking suggestions asap!

That which one least anticipates soonest comes to pass.

  2. Your daughter will so benefit from your revised outlook! 🙂 Our girls get pressure from such a young age to look the impossible, princess, re-touched, anorexic standard.

I think you could change one letter and have….Fit Friday! All your readers could join in and make Fit Friday the day we take our kids out (now that it’s nice) and walk, run, bike, play with them! Instead of sitting on the bench watching them. 🙂

I’m kind of a stalker, but I do love your blog & your creative craftiness.

  3. I don’t want to discuss how I have been doing with losing weight 😉 but I’m on board with the no “fat talk”! Have a great weekend
