finding the simple

Here is a little update on how I’m finding the simple in my days since have received quite a few emails asking me how I am doing with my word for the year. If you forgot God laid the word Simplify on my heart for 2018.
Here is a little update on how I’m finding simple in my days.

finding the Simple

I have been taking this word slow. Making sure not over think it and listen to how God is directing this in my life. One thing has been clear. Declutter my house. I like to think (although my friend Nate disagrees) that I decorate more towards the minimal wannabe farmhouse side than the overwhelming farmhouse decor. You know the house with all the chippy furniture covering every inch of floor and antiques cluttering up every possible wall and table in their house. I am not completely minimal, much to my husbands dismay, but I like to think I have a healthy balance.

In order to keep my mind from getting overwhelmed I need my office my house to be a relaxing place. I also need to keep our calendar as up to date and organized as possible. I want everyone to be able to see and know what the day/week/month looks like easily.
What does this look like? Well it means each person in our family is assigned a color in my Google Calendar. I have made sure that my husband and oldest daughter are also linked to this calendar. Next I keep a paper calendar on the the fridge (similar to the one shown above from the Target dollar spot). This has all the items listed on it. Not always the times and not color coded but it gives the littles (littles = all kids younger than my oldest) a quick glance at the day. This may all seem overly complicated to you but it really is not. It helps us all know what’s going on.

The Lord has laid two songs on my heart. I feel these songs are my anthems for the year. One is an overall life song and the other a personal song of victory. I’ll start with the Victory song.
This song was unofficially given to me! I was a part of a Sunday morning service as few backs at our church. I shared my testimony with our whole church. The first time I have publicly spoken about parts of my story. (you can listen below)

After I prayed the band played “Singing in the Victory” – by Austin Stone Worship I felt the words to the song gave words to what I had been feeling.

I will not be anxious, Jesus, You are near
The Peace of God surrounding me, and casting out all fears
The hand that holds the heavens, is the mighty hand that saves
The voice that calms the stormy seas
Is calling me by name

When I have forgotten, the fullness of Your grace
Yes, I’ll remember Calvary, where You took my place

I’m singing in the victory, the victory of the cross
I’m resting in the shadow, of Your redeeming love
I’m standing on the promise, the promise of new life
‘Cause I am Yours forever, and Jesus, You are mine
Oh Jesus, You are mine

I didn’t need to be ashamed of my past and hold on to the labels I had given myself. That Jesus paid the price for on Calvary. Such a great reminder for all of us.

My other song makes me giggle at how God works. I had been listening to a song a lot recently, we even sing it in church. But i never knew the name of it. I just knew I needed to add it to my daily playlist. So I did what any smart person would do, I typed a lyric from the song in google. Duh. And of course the name of the song has to have my word for 2018 in it.
Simple Pursuit – by Passion Conferences

God take us back, the place we began
The simple pursuit of nothing but you
The innocence of a heart in your hands
God take us back, oh God, take us back

To an unswerving faith in the power of your name
A heart beating for your kingdom to reign
A church that is known for your presence again
God take us back

Nothing and no one comes close to you
Nothing could ever come close
Nothing and no one, it’s you, and you only
Nothing could ever come close

Oh how I long for that. Simple faith. Simple church. Just Jesus, the Gospel, and seeking first His Kingdom.
For now this is where I am focusing. Decluttering my house, my days, my relationships, my life. Filling my days with organization, rest, meaningful relationships and worshiping Jesus. This is how I am finding the simple in my days.
