This Wednesday begins the Lenten season. together I want us to find refuge in God at lent.
Some of you may be asking what is Lent? Others may be asking why Lent?
What is Lent:
Lent is actually a time for spiritual preparation, leading up to Holy Week and Easter.
Why Lent:
It’s about focusing our hearts on our relationship with God. By participating in the Lenten season, you will actively choose to die to something that’s important to you so that you can have life. The purpose is not deprivation, but dedication to God.
During Lent I thought we could study God’s word together. Each day I will be posting a question/verse/or thought that pertains to getting our hearts right during this Lenten season. (I will be using our churches Lenten devotional as our guide for this study.)
There are three things we will focus on each week besides the daily devotion I will share:
- praying for three people everyday that do not know or have a personal relationship with Jesus. Pray that their hearts will be open to the truth and that they will see they need God’s love.
- fasting (often referred to “giving up” something) during lent. I encourage you to fast form something during lent that is in your normal day to day activity. A food group/ specific food item, habit, TV, internet, device, or daily convenience (dishwasher, car, cell phone, email) you will fast from this thing mon-sat and are free to enjoy it on Sunday. During the time you would normal “use” this thing you should spend time praying and thanking God for all he has done in your life.
- giving of your time/finances/self. Take time during lent to thank God for his provisions in your life. Ask him for guidance about how you may tangibly live out your gratitude by extending God’s grace to other.
