EXTRA special gift idea

This year I want to be intentional in showing my kids teachers that I appreciate them. Starting the week of Thanksgiving until Christmas break I want to give each teacher a little something. However, I want to steer clear of typical “teacher gifts”: think apples, #1 teacher mugs, and pencil crafts. Letting the teachers know they are special was a must the first week, like “Extra” special. I am a big kid when it comes to puns. I find them hilarious to the point of snorting. Off to the store we go…

I headed to Walmart to get the last minute dishes I needed for our Thanksgiving dinner. While we were checking out I grabbed a few packs of Extra Gum. I chose Peppermint, Spearmint, and Polar Ice, because I liked the color scheme, shallow i know. It looked like winter, what can i say?!? I may have even grabbed a few extra packs for stocking stuffers – okay, and a few for my purse too.
How cute is this little bouquet of mint goodness!

This project was really simple and may, or may not, leave your hands minty fresh all afternoon. Let me break it down so you can see how easy it really was:

supplies needed for extra gum gift
1.  Extra Sugar Free Gum
2. Mason jar
3. double sided sticky tape, scissors, scotch tape
4. sticks
5. ribbon
6. scrapbook paper
7. marker/pen
8. jar filler – I used pebbles.

Start by wrapping a piece of ribbon around your jar; tape ends together. Add a strip of double sided sticky tape on top of the ribbon (this allows your “gifty” to reuse the jar easily); then evenly place your wrapped sticks of gum around the jar.

After you have covered the whole ribbon with gum sticks, tie a pretty little bow around the whole jar. This will help secure your gum sticks.

Scotch tape sticks to the back of 3 or 4 of your remaining unopened packs of gum. I covered the Scotch tape in a washi tape for a little “extra” touch.  Get it – Extra, Extra gum? …Moving on.

I filled my jar with little pebbles left over from another craft project. You can also buy them at Walmart if you did not have any on hand. I trimmed the sticks so they would be at varying heights and then placed them in the jar. I used an old dictionary and some card stock to handwrite the gift tag for the arrangement.

I am pretty sure I set the bar high this first week of gifting, but that’s okay.  I am always up for a good challenge!
Are you doing any special gift giving for your kid’s teachers or for a friend/family member?
