Daily Prayers for Lent…

A few years ago our pastor preached a sermon on Lent
I was shocked to find out it was not just for Catholics.
I guess when I was growing up not many other churches talked much about it.
I am honored to be able to participate in the Lenten season.
What if an entire church committed to spend Lent in prayer, fasting and giving?  What would happen?  What would that look like?  How would that church be different?
Our pastor challenged us with these questions this past Sunday.
For the next seven weeks, you are invited to join with the my church community and me to pray, fast and give.
I am looking forward to seeing how God will grow me during this time.
What did I give up you ask? …give up,
I have always used that phrase when explaing it.
I was reading a friends blog today and loved how she describes it.
[Once again proving you’re never too old to learn] Lent is actually a time for spiritual preparation, leading up to Holy Week and Easter. It’s about focusing my heart on my relationship with God. By participating in the Lenten season, I will actively choose to die to something (not necessarily food) that’s important to me so that I can have life. The purpose is not deprivation, but dedication to God.
Okay how awesome is that. To die so I may have Life
Well I am dieing to my personal facebook and to personal shopping.
I am hoping the time wasted spent using facebook can be focused on God. Not that I was on facebook all the time but when I was there were many hours spent there.
Personal shopping does not necessarily mean clothes, but for me it means craft / fabric / Etsy stores.
I will however be able to purchase needed items for my Etsy shop and custom orders.
Our church has set up daily prayer guide to help you.
Read Daily:
“I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry,
and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”
John 6:35
Thursday March 10: Pray for those in your family who need to know Christ
Friday March 11: Please pray for those who provide meals to those in need. May they be warmed by this act of love
Saturday March 12:  Take time to examine your heart, asking how Jesus is the Bread of Life for you today. Are there needs in your life that you are not relying on Jesus to provide? Confess those needs and thank Him for being the Bread of Life
Sunday March 13: rest and receive from God.
I will share the rest of the schedule with as we get closer to next week!
I can not wait to hear how you will be spending your Lenten Season.

Teach us to pray …
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:9-13

  1. Chrissy- Husband and I are doing lent this year. We always thought of it as Catholic thing. But have always wanted to do it. So we are and I was upset over how I decided to give up (dt. coke). Sad I know but dt. coke is my thing. So anyways upset at myself for wanting to give up the first day (sad I know). But was reading A Holy experience (a must read, shes amazing). and loved her encouragement.

Glad your still doing order, bc I’m placing one right now (YEAH)!
    Blessings friend

  2. This is something for me to think about! I woke up thinking about a girlfriend who gave up her beloved cereal and it made me think…what would I give up? I then sighed with relief because phew! I’m not Catholic…
But this post now has me really thinking…
    What would I give up?
