Choosing my blog name

A lot of time went into choosing a blog name. prayer, scripture, and God's guidance. Learn where the name came from and why it's meaningful to me.

Day 3 of #31daysofwriting:

Choosing my blog name was not an easy task.
It required hearing from God, finding a name that could withstand time, and then finding a URL that I could purchase.

By blog has had a few name changes over the years.
For the first 3 and 1/2 years It was called The Boerman Family blog and my URL was jackieandtina.blogspot.com

That URL confused a lot of people so in 2011 I switched the title to Boerman Ramblings, and gave my blog a URL to matc:  boermanramblings.blogspot.com

Fast forward to 2012.
I was at the Influence Conference when the Lord prompted me to switch it all.
My name, my mission, my reason for blogging.

In order to begin this process I needed to pray and ask God to show me His vision for my blog. He kept reminding me that I needed to remain in Him, in His will, in His presence, in His word.
So I used my Bible and looked up verses that went along with that idea. That’s when I found John 15.

John 15:1-17(NCV)

Jesus Is Like a Vine
“I am the true vine; my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that does not produce fruit. And he trims and cleans every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce even more fruit. You are already clean because of the words I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. A branch cannot produce fruit alone but must remain in the vine. In the same way, you cannot produce fruit alone but must remain in me.

“I am the vine, and you are the branches. If any remain in me and I remain in them, they produce much fruit. But without me they can do nothing. If any do not remain in me, they are like a branch that is thrown away and then dies. People pick up dead branches, throw them into the fire, and burn them. If you remain in me and follow my teachings, you can ask anything you want, and it will be given to you. You should produce much fruit and show that you are my followers, which brings glory to my Father. I loved you as the Father loved me. Now remain in my love. I have obeyed my Father’s commands, and I remain in his love. In the same way, if you obey my commands, you will remain in my love. I have told you these things so that you can have the same joy I have and so that your joy will be the fullest possible joy.

“This is my command: Love each other as I have loved you. The greatest love a person can show is to die for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I heard from my Father. You did not choose me; I chose you. And I gave you this work: to go and produce fruit, fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you anything you ask for in my name. This is my command: Love each other.

A lot of time went into choosing a blog name. prayer, scripture, and God's guidance. Learn where the name came from and why it's meaningful to me.

Did you see how God spoke directly to me and led me to a verse that would define my life, my blog, my works for Him.

Now how did I get from remain to Pearl.
Well, let’s be honest it took a little work.
I tried quite a few blog titles with the name remain in them and I did not like how they sounded.
Then my friend Aimee mentioned a Pearl and how it is formed.
“pearl begins its life as a foreign object, the oyster does this amazing process to turn that object into a pearl. This process can take 5-20 years”

So like the foreign object, we are foreigners (1 Peter 2:11) and we need a process (sanctification: Romans 15:14-21) to create us into a beautiful creation (Colossians 1:17) in order to bring Glory to our creator, God (Ephesians 2:10)

So like the Pearl I am changing, being molded, being transformed: to be more like Christ.

So that’s how I came up with the name the Pearl blog.
