Chalkboard wall

Chalkboard Wall

My new house is finally starting to feel like home. It’s funny how a little chalkboard paint can make a room feel more like me! Even my husband agreed that our new house needed a chalkboard wall. Although we probably had different opinions on the size of the chalkboard needed. I guess he should have voiced his opinion BEFORE I started painting.

I was not sure what we were going to add to the wall behind out kitchen table. I tossed around the idea of adding a hoop wall or hanging plates, but i was worried it would feel too busy. In our old house i loved having the chalkboard wall in a place that was very noticeable. Somewhere that the words written can be viewed from more than one room.

I chose to go with a simple black painted frame this time around. you can not see it in the pictures but i dry brushed streaks in the frame so it stands out from the main chalkboard wall. NAd yes i strategically place the wall tom high for little to color on it. which also means i usually end up standing on the table to write that day/weeks scripture!

I chose the paint color for my kitchen based on a vintage sheet i found at goodwill. I was a floral pattern with orange, peach, blue, gray, tan and yellow. I used the sheet long with a few others i picked up to make a scrappy bunting to hang over the chalkboard.

I chose to add a variety of colors to the banner fabrics. I wanted different colors to stand out based on what other items i was currently decorating with. The orange and yellows looked great with our fall decor, and the blues, whites, and reds are popping with our winter/Christmas decorations.

This chalkboard is large enough that you see it from the living room, kitchen, back hallway, front door, and you can even see it form the road! Hopefully the words written will touch the hearts of those in our neighborhood!

Later this week i will show you how i updated the light fixture and added a little color above the slider doors! Both projects are easy and budget friendly!

  3. What a fun decoration! I love chalkboard paint. I bought some forever ago and still have not figured out what I want to do with it. I really like the size of yours. It’s not too overwhelming but big enough to play with!
